Travel and Transport (Transportation brokers) Overview
A Transportation broker falls into the category of transportation intermediary, which is a company that is neither a shipper nor an asset-owning carrier, but plays a role in the movement of cargo. Transportation intermediaries leverage their knowledge, investment in technology and people resources to help both the shipper and carrier succeed.

Brokers provide an important and valuable service to both motor carriers and shippers. They help carriers fill the trucks and earn a commission for their efforts. They help shippers find reliable motor carriers that they (the shippers) might not have otherwise known about. In fact, some companies use brokers as their traffic department, allowing the broker to coordinate all their shipping needs.

Solutions by Ramco OnDemand ERP

Ramco OnDemand ERP helps the user to maintain vehicle records of various transport suppliers, along with capturing of vehicle number, registration number, default driver name and contact details. Thus it helps the broker have a ready repository of truckers at any given point of time.

It also gives the provision to enter into contractual agreements with transport suppliers to provide necessary number of vehicles needed for shipping the consignment. It helps the user in linking the vehicle and driver information with the consignment information. Capture of route origin and destination details on a consignment basis is also possible.

The system can be used to capture the customer contracts and cash/bank receipts can be made against the contracts on the delivery of goods. Shipment related details like packaging, nature of goods, actual weight, value of goods and dimensions can also be captured in the ERP.

It also gives the provision to capture the proof of delivery with details like date, time and condition of goods. Once the goods are delivered, it guides the user to make payments to transporters as well as to fuel suppliers against received consignment. This gives the user the flexibility of tracking individual good in each of the consignment.

Finally and most importantly it gives the flexibility to track the revenue, expenses and profit against each customer contract, truck hire and consignment note.
